Poet, Literary Activist, Judge, Educator, Judge, Curator, and Brooklyn College Tow Mentor-in-Residence for Spring 2023 JP Howard visited my PRLS 2005 course!

Fall 2022 PRLS 1001 class trip! We visited the “No existe un mundo poshuracán: Puerto Rican Art in the Wake of Hurricane Maria” exhibit at the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Facilitated the “Youth Literature and the Latinx Diaspora” event co-sponsored by the Wolfe Institute for the Humanities. We welcomed authors Lorraine Avila, Saraciea J. Fennell, Camille Gomera-Tavarez, Elisabet Velasquez, and Ibi Zoboi. Photograph by Puerto Rican and Latino Studies Prof. and Photographer, Dr. Mike Mena

During the Spring 2023 semester I had a book club in Spanish in my PRLS 4430 course reading Elisabet Velasquez’s Y si lo logramos: una historia nuyorican. I do a lot of my reading on my commute.

Welcome to Brooklyn College Puerto Rican and Latino Studies with Prof. España! My PRLS 1001: Intro to PRLS class watched the Making the Impossible Possible: The Story of Puerto Rican Studies in Brooklyn College at the start of the semester. Loved starting our course this way.

You are only as strong as your community. Grateful to start my journey at Brooklyn College with Dr. Mike Mena in Fall 2022. Selfie is from our first week of classes! Happy we got to collaborate on a series of workshops for CUNY Computing Integrated Teacher Education (CITE) titled, “Video, Podcasting, and Multimodality for Teaching and Project Design” during summer 2023.
